SPORT1 - the sports channel
As of April 11, 2010, the new multimedia umbrella brand SPORT1 represents the sports channel (previously DSF), as well as the sports portal (previously Sport1). The focus from an editorial perspective is on integrating the content of the TV, online and mobile platforms. With this one-brand strategy, SPORT1 is acknowledging the growing inter-relationship between the TV, online and mobile sectors, and the changing media usage patterns of viewers and users.

Since it was established January 1, 1993, the channel has developed its position within the TV sector to become one of the most high-profile channels and the market leader in free-TV sports. High-quality live and premium sports, as well as a clear focus on male-oriented formats are the core elements of SPORT1. Through ongoing investment in high-ratings rights and careful orientation towards the target group of males aged from 14 to 49, SPORT1 has a male viewership quota of 75 percent and is one of the most high-profile TV stations on the German TV market.

SPORT1 meets the continually growing demand for sports in the TV market with first-class rights, journalistic coverage and proven sports expertise. In 2010, the station is broadcasting more than 1,150 hours of live sports and delivering a wide array of new sportainment formats, documentaries and magazine shows totaling 225 hours, alongside 80 additional hours of news.

One of the most important elements in the lineup is soccer – SPORT1 provides coverage not only of the German Bundesliga and second league, but also shows the Under-19 and Under-21 international games played by the DFB junior squads, the English FA Cup and Carling Cup, plus national and international friendly matches.

SPORT1 also screens further popular top sports in addition to soccer – these include the TOYOTA Handball Bundesliga and the Beko Basketball Bundesliga, as well as the European and World Championships in Handball and Basketball, the Ice-Hockey World Championships, Grand Slam tennis from Wimbledon and the Davis Cup matches played by the German team, as well as athletics meetings from the IAAF Diamond League.

Moreover, the channel has also secured the exclusive broadcast rights to the MotoGP through 2011, additional motorsports include Formula 1 and the DTM among others. Sporting disciplines like table tennis, boxing, golf, cycling, rugby, wrestling, poker, darts and sailing round off the SPORT1 program lineup.
